Survey templates – what's editable and what isn't

A quick guide to what you can customise in Wellio surveys, what's fixed, and how to share feedback if there's something you'd like to change.

When setting up a survey in Wellio, you have control over:

  • Which template to use – Wellio Index or Wellbeing Skills Index, depending on what you're measuring.
  • Survey start and end dates – when the survey is available for students to complete.
  • Confidentiality setting – whether responses are confidential (anonymous, aggregated by year level and class) or non-confidential (linked to student profiles for individual analysis).
  • Year levels – which cohorts receive the survey.
  • Specific student groups or classes within those year levels.

What you can't currently edit

The following parts of a survey template cannot be changed at the moment:

  • Question wording – the text of each question is fixed.
  • Adding new questions – you can't add custom questions to a template.
  • Removing questions – individual questions can't be skipped or removed from a template.
  • Question order – the sequence of questions is fixed.
  • Response scale – all questions use the standard Likert scale (Strongly Disagree → Strongly Agree).

This applies to all current survey templates, including the Wellio Index, Wellbeing Skills Index, and School Climate Index.

Why survey questions are fixed

Our survey templates are built and validated by our team of clinical psychologists and educators. Keeping the questions consistent means:

  • Your results are comparable year-on-year – you can track changes in student wellbeing over time without question changes skewing the data.
  • Benchmarking works – you can see how your school compares to broader Wellio data.
  • The underlying constructs stay valid – small changes to question wording can meaningfully change what's being measured.

That's why we don't currently offer in-platform editing of survey templates.
