How to extend a survey deadline
Give students more time to complete a survey without unpublishing or losing any responses.
If your survey is about to close (or has already closed) and some students still haven't finished, you can extend the deadline.
How to extend a survey
- Navigate to Insights → Surveys and open the survey you'd like to extend.
- Click Extend in the top menu.

- Pick a new Close Date in the modal that appears.

- Click Save.
That's it. The survey stays published, no data is lost, and students who haven't finished can keep submitting until the new close date. No additional notification is sent to students.
Can I extend a survey that's already closed?
Yes. If the survey has already passed its close date, you can still extend it. The new date must be at least tomorrow. This effectively reopens the survey for students who haven't submitted.
What's the difference between extending and editing?
| Extend | Edit survey | |
| What it changes | Close date only | Name, dates, participants, or factors |
| Survey stays published? | Yes | No - it's unpublished immediately |
| Students can still submit? | Yes, uninterrupted | No, not until you republish |
| Need to republish? | No | Yes - you must click Publish again |
| Responses kept? | Yes | Yes |
Use Extend when you just need more time. Use Edit survey when you need to change something other than the close date - but be aware it unpublishes the survey and students won't be able to access it until you republish.
Note: After republishing an edited survey, students are not automatically re-notified.
You may want to click Email reminder on the Responses tab to let them know it's available again.
