Delivering a lesson in Device-Free Mode

Teachers can use Device-Free Mode to deliver lessons in Wellio when their students don't have access to electronic devices. This feature ensures that lessons can proceed smoothly even in the face of technical (or behavioural) challenges.

 

Step-by-step guide on how to present your class in Device-Free Mode. 

 

How to turn on Device-Free Mode:

  1. Navigate to the class you are presenting a lesson for:

  2. In your class' page, find the lesson you are preparing to deliver and click View:

  3. Click the ⋮ menu next to Present button in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

  4. Select Present device free:

How to use Wellio's interactive tools in Device-Free Mode:

When using Device-Free Mode, the students will still view all the videos embedded in the lesson as part of the teacher's presentation.

Instead of the students responding to the questions from their own devices, you can use these questions as a prompt for classroom discussion or polling in the room! Make use of your whiteboard or any other tools you have available.

Not in a computer room? Students don't need a computer, laptop or tablet to take part. Present the lesson in Device-Free Mode and discuss the answers together.

Student responses aren't collected in Device-Free Mode, so there's nothing for students to submit.

After classroom discussion, toggle Responses on to reveal the example answers or average poll data from schools across Australia and the UK to further the conversation.

 

How do I mark a Device-Free lesson as done?

You don't need to. There's no attendance to mark in Device-Free Mode, and no way to mark a lesson as done yourself.

Wellio marks the lesson as Delivered based on how long you present it (20 or more active minutes), the same as any other lesson:

  1. Present the full lesson in Device-Free Mode.
  2. Keep the lesson as your active browser tab while you teach. If you click away to another tab or window, the timer pauses.
