Troubleshooting Adding Lessons to Sequences

Can't drag a lesson into your sequence, or seeing a warning you didn't expect? Here's how to fix the most common reasons.

If you're trying to add a lesson to a sequence and something isn't working e.g. the drag-and-drop doesn't work, a warning icon appears, or you're getting a "lesson is already in the sequence" message – this guide will walk you through the four most common causes and how to resolve each.

Before you start, make sure you're following the standard flow:

  1. Open your sequence from the Sequences tab.
  2. Click the Library icon on the left-hand side.
  3. Filter by category, year level, or author to find the lesson you want.
  4. Drag and drop the lesson into the week you want it in.

If that's not working, jump to the matching section below.

1. "This lesson is already in the sequence" or a warning icon appears

If you see a warning icon when dragging a lesson in, or a message saying the lesson is already in this sequence – it's flagging lessons your students may have already completed, or that already appear in another sequence at your school.

There are two types of warnings:

  • Repeated lesson - some students in this class have already completed this lesson in a previous sequence or school year.
  • Duplicate lesson - this lesson is already in another sequence for a different year level at your school. It's not blocking you, but worth checking before students complete it twice.

These warnings don't stop you from adding the lesson. If you've checked and you still want to include it, you can drag it across as normal. For more info, see What is a repeated or duplicate lesson in my Sequence?

2. "You've reached the maximum lessons for this week"

Wellio allows a maximum of two lessons per weekly block in a sequence. If you try to drag a third lesson into the same week, it won't land.

To fix this, you can:

  • Move the lesson to a different week — drag it into a week that has fewer than two lessons.
  • Remove a lesson from that week first — hover over an existing lesson and click the menu to remove it, then drag the new one in.
  • Split lessons across consecutive weeks if you'd planned to teach them close together.

3. Adding lessons to a new term mid-year

If you're partway through the year and want to add lessons for an upcoming term, you don't need to create a new sequence – each class is allocated to a single sequence for the year, and you can keep adding to it at any time.

To add lessons to a later term:

  1. Open the sequence from the Sequences tab.
  2. Switch to Calendar View to see how the year is laid out by term.
  3. Scroll to the term you want to add lessons to.
  4. Open the Library, find the lesson, and drag it into the relevant week.

Important: Avoid creating separate sequences for each term – moving a class across multiple sequences will lead to progress loss for your students.

Still stuck?

If none of the above resolves it, it's worth a quick check of the basics first:

  • Refresh your browser — this clears most temporary glitches with drag-and-drop.
  • Try a different browser — Chrome and Edge tend to give the smoothest experience with Wellio.
  • Check your role — sequence editing requires teacher-level access. If you're signed in as a student or observer account, the drag-and-drop won't work.

If you've tried all of the above and you still can't add the lesson, reach out to our Support team at support@wellioeducation.com with:

  • The sequence name and year level
  • The lesson title you're trying to add
  • A screenshot of any error message or warning icon you're seeing
