How to run an assessment with your class
Unlock your class's assessment so students can start, and find out what to do if they can't get in.
Assessments are scheduled for you by your school's Wellio admin or by Wellio, and they appear in your class on the scheduled dates. Students can see them but can't start until a teacher unlocks them. This article is for teachers. Running it on paper instead? See how to run an assessment on paper.
How to run an assessment
- Click Classes and open your class.
- Find the week the assessment is scheduled for. If it's the current week, it appears at the top of the Class page.
- When your class is ready, click Unlock.
- Ask students to sign in to Wellio, open their class and click Start assessment.
- Remind students to answer every question and click Submit. The button only works once they've answered them all.
- When you're finished, click Lock if you'd like to close the assessment. You won't see this button once your class shows as Completed.
🔔 Unlocking opens the assessment for every class on the same sequence, not just yours. If other classes aren't due to take it yet, check with your Wellio admin or lock it again when you're done.
Where do students find the assessment?
It's in their class in Wellio, alongside their lessons. Students aren't emailed about assessments and there's no sign-in banner, so let them know where to look.
My students can see it, but it says "Locked"
This means the assessment hasn't been unlocked yet. Follow the steps above to click Unlock. Students should then see Start assessment.
I can't see an "Unlock" button
- Is your school device-free? Device-free schools don't have Unlock or Lock, because students answer on paper. See how to run an assessment on paper.
- Does it say Completed? Your class has finished, so there's nothing left to unlock.
- Does it say Lock? It's already unlocked, possibly by a teacher of another class on your sequence.
It says Missed - can we still do it?
Yes! Missed means the scheduled week ended before enough students completed the assessment. It doesn't close the assessment:
- If it was never unlocked, click Unlock on the class page. Students can then start it.
- If it's already unlocked, students can still complete it until someone locks it.
What about students who were absent?
If the assessment is still unlocked, they can complete it whenever they're back. If it's been locked, click Unlock again. If your class already shows as Completed, you won't have an Unlock button, so contact Support and we'll help.
How do I know when my class is done?
The assessment shows as Completed once at least 80% of students have answered at least 80% of the questions. You can then click Download results on your class page. See where to find assessment results.
